What About Us?

Indie Albany is a collaborative site for non-commercial bloggers, originally based in (but not now bound by) the geographical confines of New York’s Capital Region. Here’s our manifesto:

  • We embrace variety, representing a wide range of opinion, belief and experience.
  • We commit to treating each other and our readers with respect, and expect the same in return.
  • Our writers retain all rights to their words and images, forever.
  • The material here is unique to Indie Albany and its sister site, Indie Moines, though some of our writers also write other things elsewhere.
  • We commit to writing regularly, so it’s worth readers’ while to visit often.
  • We are not primarily a political site, though we recognize that politics are personal, and sometimes the act of writing from the heart may be viewed through political lenses by others.
  • We are a moderated site committed to providing quality content offered at a Safe for Work level; offensive material (including reader comments) can and will be removed when necessary.
  • Creative writing, commentary, storytelling, and perceptive, original views and analysis of the world around us are valued more highly than hard news and current events reporting.
  • No paid advertising will be displayed here, so that writers’ words do not benefit commercial or political concerns not of their own choosing.

This looks exciting and even though I am in Australia, a long way for Albany NY, I hope I can be part of it, as a reader not a writer.

  2. Thanks, Mellie! You know I always appreciate your support and good taste!!

Congrats on an excellent idea and a good launch. I’d love to participate but I’m not sure I can keep up with the minor obligations I already have — but if I think of an angle that I could keep unique to Indiealbany, I’ll be back.

    • Thanks, Carl . . . I’m proud to point our readers toward My Non-Urban Life, since you really have had one of the longest running and best indie blogs in this market, hands down!!!

My apologies, but I definately do not write like the people that have volunteered already. But i will definately be here reading everyday. I won’t miss this at all. My favorite bloggers all in 1 spot, all commercial free. Life is good!!!!

Just wanted to let you know I enjoy your photo adventures in suburbia. Also, Miffy Zemanta appears to think he lives at my house, yet always goes home to eat. :-) Sleeping on my lap right now as I lie on the couch…

Being from the Albany area and living there most of my life, I have found this is a wonderful outlet now that I live over seas…. I have many friends who write for this site and have tried to convince me to write about my adventures here seeing, being from New York and my lifelong experiences there, give me a unique perspective about the life I live here in Australia… Did I mention I moved for a guy….. I met on the net…. with 5 kids of his own…. the adventures are never ending… The only way I make it through is with a wonderful family, and an amazing sense of humor!
